Currently 6 states have banned abortion at 8 weeks, criminalizing abortion based on state law. Missouri recently being one of the six to revive the debate for pro-life versus pro-choice by enacting a ban on abortions at 8 weeks.
As of April 2017, funding for planned parent hood has ceased; many locations have closed since the president rejected funding for clinics that practice abortions that use federal funds and Medicaid; Setting a republican stance for a pro life debate in 2020 amongst republican and democratic states who are following the 45th president to over turn Supreme Court Decision Roe Versus Wade and also set statues for what is consenual rape and cause for abortion, within those first 8 weeks.
The new statues also overturn the 14th Amendment which establishes the right to family privacy. In 1973 Roe v. Wade, 410 U.S. 113, was a landmark decision of the U.S. Supreme Court in which the Court ruled that the Due Process Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution provides a fundamental “right to privacy” that protects a pregnant woman’s liberty to choose whether or not to have an abortion.
Pro choice policies that protect right to privacy were established around the Roe Versus Wade court decision and also upheld by state departments that collect private information families like social services and and child protective services.
In general the right to privacy is being challenged by state law versus federal. Marijuana and recreational drug use were the first state rights to decide what jurisdictions can regulate and enforce. Colorado was the first state to challenge judicial reviews that stated marijuana could be studied medically 2014 on patients then further voted upon for recreational 2016 use which was first which won state approval and created a wave for several other states to approve. The President hasn’t over stepped state legislation and stopped state regulation but has let states regulate the use of marijuana.
Abortion and Drug enforcement laws all deal with a certain right to privacy but also protect a pro choice stance that could be understated in right to be pro life. Lastly, and importantly defining crimes. Educating ourselves on the choices we make each day.
